Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) is essential for ensuring transparency, accuracy, and trust in our carbon removal process. It allows us to quantify the CO₂ we remove from the atmosphere and store into calcium bicarbonate, comply with international standards, and validate the issuance of carbon credits. We are working with a third-party certifier to measure and monitor our outputs and impacts.
Limenet is one of the first CDR companies whose process has been certified ISO 14064-2 by RINA, that sets guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse emissions reductions or removal enhancements.
We have taken this step because we strongly believe in the importance of measuring the impact of our technology to produce high-quality carbon credits. Credible and verifiable methodology is essential for building trust in the carbon removal market.
Our first-of-a-kind methodology in this field outlines the project requirements, as well as the validation and verification procedures, and the steps for calculating the removal of GHG emissions.
This work deep dives into the details of the entire process, highlighting several key aspects, including the following:
- Applicability conditions and the determination of the baseline.
- Description of the project activity and its boundaries.
- Definition of the monitoring plan including the CO₂ removed accounting with particular consideration about the possible leakages during CO₂ transportation and plant operativity within the energy consumption.
Limenet pilot plant in Augusta (Italy) has been built following the developed ISO 14064-2 methodology to test Limenet technology at industrial scale.
This facility is the biggest CDR plant in the world based on pH-equilibrated OAE and has the capability of removing 800 tonnes of CO2 per year.
